Clorox Plus High Efficiency Bleach: 'Mouthwash' for HE Machines

Whites are Whiter; HE Washing Machines are Cleaner and Odor Free

OAKLAND, Calif., October 1, 2008 – High efficiency (HE) washers are hot, with more consumers turning to HEs, given their lower consumption of water and energy. However, some HE machines can develop a common problem -- a foul odor -- which may leave consumers cold and laundry potentially smelling less than fresh. After a few wash cycles, water that has not completely drained out of the machine can be left behind, creating a breeding ground for bad odors. One simple solution -- do a load with Clorox® Plus™ High Efficiency Bleach, which is specially formulated for HE machines and effective in eliminating those bad odors.

According to Harold Baker, Associate Research Fellow at The Clorox Company, aka "Dr. Laundry," Clorox® Plus™ High Efficiency Bleach makes it easy to integrate proper HE machine maintenance and cleaning into your existing laundry routine. Simply add bleach during white loads once a week to remove the first traces of scum accumulation while keeping whites their whitest. Clorox® Regular-Bleach can also be used to help eliminate bad odors in HE machines. "Bleach is the 'mouthwash' for High Efficiency machines, removing build-up of bad odors that can collect weekly," said Dr. Laundry. "Using bleach in your regular white laundry cycle will keep both your washing machine and clothes fresh and odor free." With a thicker formula, Clorox® Plus™ High Efficiency Bleach is easy to control and pour into the machine dispenser making it the smart solution for both machine and laundry protection and preservation.

About Clorox® Regular-Bleach

Clorox® bleach is a solution of sodium hypochlorite, which breaks down primarily into salt and water after use. There is no free chlorine in any Clorox® bleach product. Clorox® Regular-Bleach is effective in whitening laundry whites and disinfecting surfaces around the home. In fact, bleach is the most widely available and affordable disinfectant on Earth. Since it was introduced in 1913, Clorox® Regular-Bleach has been used in places where killing germs is critical: in hospitals, nursing homes, child-care centers and schools. In fact, when the first Apollo flights were heading into space, NASA used Clorox® Regular-Bleach to decontaminate the capsules returning from orbit. Disinfecting household surfaces with Clorox® Regular-Bleach is still very important today since it kills germs that can make people sick, including Salmonella, E.coli and other germs of increasing concern like MRSA.
